ProDev Students Enhance Campus Safety and Gain Valuable Skills at Institute for GOD

In February, the Professional Development (ProDev) students at the Institute for GOD demonstrated their growing expertise in facilities management through a series of practical projects at the Academy for Global Outreach Developments. A notable project involved installing and ensuring the stability of a concrete post to support safety signage on the academy's playground. This project not only aimed at enhancing safety but also provided students with essential construction skills, emphasizing the importance of precision and durability in public infrastructure work.

Emphasizing Safety and Skill in Facilities Management

Safety is a priority in the education approach of our Facilities Department. Our students engaged in high-risk activities, such as cleaning high windows using a 30-foot mast lift, where they practiced strict safety protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). These activities offer invaluable lessons on the critical nature of safety measures in preventing workplace accidents and ensuring a secure working environment.

Developing Technical Competencies

The students also gained hands-on experience in appliance installation, assisting with setting up a washer and dryer. This task provided insight into the technical requirements necessary for the efficient and safe operation of household appliances, covering crucial electrical and plumbing skills.

Event Preparation and Space Management

Our ProDev students were instrumental in preparing for various campus events, showcasing the importance of teamwork and efficient time management. Their responsibilities included setting up spaces and performing last-minute cleaning, particularly in areas under the stage and around the Nyumba area.

Hospitality as a Core Aspect of Facilities Management

An essential part of the students' educational journey is understanding the role of hospitality in facilities management. They learned that maintaining an organized and clean environment goes beyond simple upkeep; it creates a welcoming and safe space for everyone on campus.

Teamwork and Collaborative Learning

The achievements of the Facilities Department in February also underscored the significance of teamwork and collaboration. Working closely with staff and fellow students, the ProDev group made substantial contributions to maintaining and enhancing campus safety and aesthetics, enriching their learning experience and fostering a strong community spirit.

Looking Ahead

The GOD Facilities Department continues to progress in maintaining our campus and providing a dynamic, hands-on learning environment for its students. With each project, students acquire diverse skills that prepare them for future challenges and leadership roles in safety and facilities management.

Conclusion

The growth and dedication of the ProDev students at the Institute for G.O.D. highlight the immense benefits of practical learning. As these students advance, they not only meet the immediate needs of our campus but also lay a solid foundation for applying their skills in broader, global contexts.
